28 Year Old Du Quoin Deer Hunter Injured When Shotgun Discharges

DuQuoin Evening Call, IL

8 December 2003

An accidental shooting Friday evening about 10:38 p.m. left a Du Quoin man with an injured hand.

Police were called to investigate a person brought to Marshall Browning Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Johnny Wohlwend, 28, Du Quoin, told police he had been cleaning his shotgun after going deer hunting, but failed to completely unload the gun.

The gun discharged while being handled and caused damage to Wohlwend's left hand.

Hundreds of Southern Illinois hunters returned to the fields and woods around Perry County for the second deer-hunting shotgun season weekend.

No other accidents were reported by the Illinois Department of Conservation, Illinois State Police at Du Quoin or the Perry County Sheriff's Department.
