CHILD Shot in Apparent Hunting Accident

Lubbock TX - 8 Sep 2003:

Monday was the first day of dove hunting season in Texas, however the day did not end without incident. As of Monday evening, a 6-year-old boy is at Covenant Medical Center recovering from a gun shot wound.

It happened in Dickens County Monday evening. According to Dickens County officials, the boy suffered serious injuries in an apparent hunting accident. Paramedics then brought the boy to Covenant Children's Hospital, in Lubbock. The Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife is investigating the incident.

Otherwise, opening day of dove season in this area was a success. According to the game warden, Monday was an average opening day, a little on the slow side due to the recent rains scattering the birds.
