NV man cited for illegal traps that snared cat
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - A Fernley man has been cited for illegally baiting
and placing an animal trap that snared a cat along the Truckee River in east
Sparks.
Officers with the Nevada Department of Wildlife describe 29-year-old
Christopher Iveson as a "rookie" trapper who was remorseful when told of his
violations.
Iveson was cited for setting a leghold trap within 30 feet of exposed
bait and 200 feet of a roadway.
Authorities say the cat was lured Sunday by an open can of tuna. Once
snared, the animal had nowhere to go but in the water.
Someone called Washoe County Regional Animal Services, who took the cat
to the Nevada Humane Society. Officials there say the feline was traumatized
and cold but is doing better and will not lose its leg.
