An Iowa man has pleaded guilty to poaching about $68,000
of trophy-quality deer and elk.
Kevin Lee Chelf, 44, a pipeline worker from Iowa City,
pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of
Iowa.
Most were in Iowa. He also admitted to poaching two bull
elk in Colorado in 1997 and 1998.
Under a plea agreement, Chelf will serve eight months in
federal prison and pay a fine of $5,000, plus restitution to the two states.
