An Idaho man was arrested on allegations of illegally hunting wild
turkeys at night on a Snake River island near Ontario while boating and
drinking.
Christopher C. Eversol, 20, of New Plymouth, Idaho, faces counts of
hunting turkey during prohibited hours, being a minor in possession of
alcohol, wasting wildlife and taking a hen turkey in a closed season in
the April 28 incident, Oregon State Police said. He also was arrested on
an outstanding Baker County warrant.
Police also charged Billy Judd Briggs, 30, of Payette, Idaho, with
boating while under the influence of intoxicants, unsafe boating and
furnishing alcohol to a minor in the incident.
A state trooper found the two men aboard a boat operating without
navigation lights, said OSP Lt. Randy Scorby. Other troopers later
discovered two dead hen turkeys on Starr Island that had been shot and
left to waste, he said.
