ROSEBURG -- Authorities say two hunters from Springfield have been
charged with illegally taking elk in an area that is closed to elk
hunting, and two others were charged with helping.
Oregon State Police say Fish & Wildlife Division troopers
reported finding a pair of pickup trucks loaded with two dead cow
elk Saturday in the Bateman Ridge area northwest of Roseburg.
Police say an investigation led to a third dead cow elk left
behind.
The animals were killed in an area closed to elk hunting.
Police say 37-year-old Marvin L. Dean and a 14-year-old boy were
cited for unlawfully taking a cow elk.
Two others -- 33-year-old Giovanni Bonnati and 54-year-old Ronald
Chase -- were cited on a charge of aiding and abetting in a wildlife
crime.
