N. Idaho man banned for life from hunting

A state judge has imposed a lifetime hunting ban on a northern Idaho man convicted for illegally slaughtering five deer.

Timothy Herbert, 32, of Athol, was also ordered to pay $12,400 in fines and sentenced to four years supervised probation.

Investigators say Herbert and another man were arrested Oct. 19, 2008, for felony possession of waste of deer after Idaho Fish and Game wardens found five carcasses and an untagged turkey at Herbert's home.

Fish and Game officials claim Herbert used vehicle headlights to blind the deer before shooting them. The allegations were reported by someone who called the state's poaching hotline.

Agency statistics show that fewer than 50 lifetime license suspensions have been imposed in state history.
