Seaford man arrested, charged with hunting violations
SEAFORD, DEL. -
DNREC Fish & Wildlife Sgt. Gregory Rhodes said the work of a very
observant agent led to the Nov. 13 arrest of a Seaford man on hunting
violations.
Rhodes said the agent was on routine patrol at DNREC's River Road
Wildlife Area, near the Woodland Ferry, and spotted a vehicle belonging to
39-year-old John W. Whitby, of Seaford. After confirming his suspicion by
running the vehicle's tags, the agent waited for Whitby to emerge from the
woods.
"We've had dealings with him before," Rhodes said.
When Whitby came back to his truck, he did not have a firearm with him.
Rhodes said the agent on the scene, a K-9 officer, was able to backtrack
through the woods, "where he discovered where Mr. Whitby's gun had been
hidden," he said.
Whitby was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a person
prohibited, lack of hunter orange clothing and other violations. He was
released on $15,100 unsecured bond, pending a trial date.
DNREC encourages citizens to report fish and wildlife violations to their
enforcement section, 302-739-4580.
