Ala. father, son charged in connection with shootings at raccoon hunt
FORT PAYNE, Ala. (AP) - The DeKalb County sheriff says a Flat Rock man
has been charged with attempted murder and his son charged with assault in
connection with a shooting at a raccoon hunt.
Sheriff Jimmy Harris says 50-year-old Harold Lefelle Thompson was
arrested Monday on attempted murder charges.
Thompson's 20-year-old son, William Joshua Thompson, was charged with
second-degree assault.
The sheriff's office says two men and two juveniles were raccoon hunting
on March 4 when they were confronted by the Thompsons, and gunfire erupted.
The Gadsden Times reports that one of the hunters, Jerome Higdon, was hit
in the shoulder and Harold Thompson was struck in the stomach. One of the
juveniles also was grazed across the back.
Harold Thompson is jailed on a $25,000 bond and William Thompson on
$17,500.
