WI: man is charged with illegal hunting and being a felon in possession of a firearm
November 27, 2009
WAUPACA — A Kaukauna man is charged with illegal hunting and being a
felon in possession of a firearm after admitting to authorities that he shot
and killed a deer with a borrowed deer tag.
James R. Berghuis, 40, 409 E. 20th St., also received a state Department
of Natural Resources citation for using another person's license after he
was caught Sunday with a deer carcass. Berghuis was arrested at a New London
hotel by New London police, who were called there to investigate an incident
in his hotel room.
Berghuis told them he had been hunting earlier that day in Waupaca
County, shot a doe and put another person's tag on it.
He is scheduled to appear Dec. 8 in Waupaca County Court.
