Gunshot kills Allen Parish hunter
OBERLIN, La. - The Allen Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating
the death of an Oakdale man whose body was found after he failed to return
home from a hunting trip.
Grant Willis, sheriff's chief deputy, tells The American Press that
officers searching for 55-year-old Robert J. Fontenot found his body at
about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Willis said Fontenot died of a gunshot wound. He said a gun was found
near his body.
Willis said Fontenot and another man went hunting Monday at a private
hunting club off La. Highway 10 just west of Oakdale.
The other man, whose name hasn't been released, told police that he had
left Fontenot at the truck and went hunting. When he returned he reportedly
couldn't find Fontenot.
