Oregon poacher gets lifetime hunting ban and $17K fine
4/12/11
A man from the Sweet Home area was convicted of illegally killing bighorn
sheep, blacktail deer and a cougar. (OSP)
A man from the Sweet Home area lost his right to hunt and will have to
pay almost $17,000 in fines after a conviction for the illegal hunting of
bighorn sheep, blacktail deer and a cougar.
After an investigation by the Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife
Division, Enoch Ray Robertson, 30, was sentenced last week on five counts of
wildlife crimes.
The illegal shootings, according to troopers, stem from two instances
last spring and another in the fall of 2009, when the animals were either
out of season or in the case of the cougar, without a tag.
In the case of the bighorn sheep, investigators estimated the age at 7
years old, with significant horns that rated over 173 points on the Boone
and Crocket scale.
In addition to the $16,910 fine and lifetime hunting ban, Robertson will
serve six days in jail, 10 days of community service and will be on
probation for 40 months.
The court also seized animal antlers, meat and two rifles used in the
shootings.
