HELENA, Mont. — Four Wisconsin men have pleaded guilty to illegally
hunting mountain lions north of Helena over a span of two years.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks game warden Kevin Cook says a tip
and the Internet helped investigators track down Eric Steingraber, Daren
Evenson, Jeremy Rosenberg and Eric Hermansen in Wisconsin. The warden
says the department heard about the illegal hunt in December 2009 and
found the men after Steingraber posted an account of the trip on an
online forum.
A total of five mountain lions were illegally killed.
Cook says the men acknowledged killing three mountain lions, and
wardens learned Steingraber and Evenson also illegally shot two mountain
lions in Montana in 2008.
The Independent Record reports the men will not be allowed to hunt,
fish or trap in Montana and 36 other states for two years.
