MT: Man sentenced for hunting violations
Animal wasn't a threat, officer says

DEER LODGE — A Missoula man has lost his hunting, fishing and trapping
privileges for eight years following sentencing Friday in Deer Lodge justice
court.
A jury found Jan H. Hauser, 64, guilty of various hunting and camping
violations in Powell County earlier this month.
Judge JoAnne Nelson fined Hauser $1,875, ordered him to pay $500
restitution
for a 4x4 whitetail buck, and sentenced him to 24 months in jail with all
but eight days suspended. His hunting, fishing and trapping licenses are
suspended for eight years.
Failure to comply will be treated as contempt of court and could result
in
revocation of the suspended sentence, she said.
According to court records Hauser was cited on Oct. 27, 2010, for failing
to
tag a 4x4 whitetail buck, shooting the buck with a rifle in hunting district
290, which is archery only for deer, waste or abandoning the buck by driving
away after the deer was killed, and failing to get landowner permission to
hunt big game.
He was also charged with failure to possess or exhibit his hunting
license
when asked to do so, failure to pay overnight use fee at Brown’s Lake
Fishing Access Site, and camping at the site for 14 days, when a stay is
limited to seven days.
