MOUNT MADONNA - A man was arrested Monday night after he shot a deer
on private property near Mount Madonna County Park, the Sheriff's Office
reported.
About 9 p.m., a witness saw a car drive into a meadow near a herd of
deer on the 300 block of Mount Madonna Road, deputy April Skalland said.
A witness said the driver of the car turned the car's lights on the
deer. Someone fired a shot at the deer and they scattered, Skalland
said.
About 10:45 p.m., sheriff's deputies pulled over a Chevy Malibu near
the corner of Mount Madonna Road and Hazel Dell Road and found a dead
deer in the trunk, Skalland said. Deputies also found a .22 caliber
rifle, Skalland said.
Jose Flores-Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of hunting without a
license, spotlighting game and trespassing on private property for the
purpose of hunting, Skalland said. Another man in the car was released,
deputies said.
