FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - A Greenfield man faces a charge that
he was using an illegal weapon while deer hunting over the weekend.
Indiana Conservation Officers were called to part of Franklin County
after two archery hunters heard a gunshot ring out around 8 a.m.
The conservation officers found Troy Hancock nearby. Officers say
Hancock admitted that he shot and killed a female deer with a Winchester
rifle in order to put meat in his freezer.
Conservation Officers charged him with hunting on property without
permission, failure to procure a valid deer hunting license and hunting
with an illegal device.
Deer season opened October 1 to archery hunters while firearm season
does not begin until Nov. 12.
“Even if firearm season was in this particular rifle he was using is
still illegal” stated Indiana Conservation Officer Corey Norrod.
