Barre, Vt. — A Vermont commercial hunting guide has been convicted of
baiting bears for his clients.
Forty-one-year-old John Monfreda of Hinesburg was convicted Oct. 19
in Chittenden County District Court. He was fined $200 and loses his
right to buy Vermont hunting, fishing and trapping licenses for three
years.
The case resulted from a tip through Vermont's Operation Game Thief
phone line that Monfreda was using bait to attract game for clients.
Hunting bears with the use of bait is prohibited in the state.
