4 men charged with illegal hunting after man accidentally shot in Fort Washington

January 8, 2012

From Associated Press

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. Four men have been charged with illegal hunting after an incident in which one of their friends was accidentally shot.

Maryland Natural Resources Police say 57-year-old Roy Contee of Upper Marlboro shot a member of his hunting group in the abdomen and knee Saturday afternoon. The victim, 59-year-old Ricky Johnson of Clinton, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The Baltimore Sun reports the men were hunting in a wooded area off a major road in Fort Washington. The land is owned by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (http://bsun.md/yhWwRs).

Contee is charged with negligent hunting, hunting without written permission and illegal use of buckshot. Three others also face hunting-related charges.
