A 30-year-old Danville man, William Ray Huffman, pleaded guilty
Wednesday in Halifax County Circuit Court to five illegal hunting
Huffman pleaded guilty to possessing a
firearm as a convicted felon, contributing to the delinquency of a
minor, unlawfully shooting/taking game from a vehicle, hunting,
trapping or fishing without a license and trespassing to hunt, fish
The court sentenced Huffman to five years in prison
for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon with all but 12 months
suspended and to a 12-month suspended jail term for contributing to
the delinquency of a minor.
The court ordered the suspended
portions of Huffman’s sentence be conditioned on his good behavior
for 10 years, beginning immediately, ordered him placed on probation
for one year upon his release and ordered him to pay court costs
within 12 months of his release.
In addition, the court
ordered the defendant to pay $100 fines for shooting/taking game
from a vehicle, hunting, trapping or fishing without a license and
trespassing to hunt, trap or fish.
Huffman also was ordered
by the court to pay a $250 penalty to the Board of Inland Game and
