1. Wal-Mart Milk Hormone-Free: Due to costumer demand, retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced last week that its Great Value private-label milk brand is now being produced with cows that have not been treated with artificial growth hormones. Although the hormone is approved for use in the U.S. and the Food and Drug Administration (USDA) has said it poses no health risk to humans, safety concerns have not been dismissed.

Modern agriculture has resorted to artificial hormones and antibiotics to manipulate animals as commodities in order to increase profit and minimize cost, bringing misery to humans, animals and contaminating the environment. The article above shows that consumers have great power when making their choices, and hopefully more of us will realize that dairy products are not only not necessary for a healthy diet, but that the industry causes unimaginable suffering to dairy cows and their calves.

2. "We should be able to refuse to live if the price of living be the torture of sentient beings." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

3. Factory Farming Antibiotic Resistance Problem: Immunologists are raising awareness about the increasing problem of antibiotic-resistant bacteria due to the overuse of antibiotics by the factory farming industry. Because farmed animals are raised under confinement and in great numbers, the spread of disease happens quickly and easily, which is why they’re fed antibiotics and other medicines when they aren’t sick. While beneficial in the short term, this short-sighted practice leads to stronger and more drug-resistant bacteria in the long term.

Causing misery to God's animals comes back to us in different forms, such us the rising of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Being stewards of God's Creation has privileges and responsibilities and we should take this sacred responsibility with a Christ-like heart. Factory Farming is reflecting our lack of care for God's animals, for our health and the state of the environment.

4. (RSV) Psalm 62:7

“On God rests my deliverance and my honor; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.”

The basis of our behavior and achievements is the grace and glory of God, in whom we should put our faith and life. God, our rock, helps us overcome the suffering and injustice we witness and experience.

5. Potlucks Important for Vegetarians: The number of vegetarians is growing in the US from 1 percent of adults in 1997 to an estimated 2.5 percent. However, the percentage is still small and some vegetarians feel lonely or alienated because of their choice of diet. This is were support is essential and the reason why vegetarian potlucks are organized on a regular basis in many cities and towns, giving vegetarians a chance to connect, relate to one another and find the moral support that they need.
