1. UK Reduces Meat Products Intake

Consumers in the UK are reducing their consumption of processed meat and meat products after the media released results of a study linking the meats to increased risks of colon cancer, claiming that eating 150g of processed meat a day increased the risk of this cancer by 63 per cent. According to a World Cancer Research Fund-commissioned YouGov survey, over 10 per cent of people have tried to cut down on processed meat intake.

It’s encouraging that the media is exposing the negative effects of a meat-based diet on our health. Hopefully, more people will choose this year to be better stewards of their bodies by adopting a balanced plant-based diet.

2.He who cures a disease may be the skillfullest, but he that prevents it is the safest physician.”
~ Thomas Fuller (1608-1661), English churchman and historian.

3. More Fruits and Vegetables Reduce Recurrence of Breast Cancer

According to a new report from the Women's Healthy Living and Eating Lifestyle Study high-fiber, low-fat diets reduce recurrence of breast cancer by 31 percent in women with higher estrogen levels. The study included breast cancer survivors who were randomly assigned to either a special high-fiber diet including five vegetable servings, 16 ounces of vegetable juice, and three fruit servings daily, or a comparison diet based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's five-a-day guidelines—a total of five servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

4. 1 John 4:20-21

If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should love his brother also.

Our Creator calls us to love one another, thereby reflecting God's love in us. Even though it's hard at times to love those who don't think or act like us, or who in our eyes are doing wrong, we should never forget that we are not perfect either, and that God loves us nonetheless.

6. Chicago Health Commissioner Says “Go Vegetarian”

Chicago health commissioner, Dr. Terry Mason, is encouraging people to join him in going vegetarian for January as part of his campaign to get healthier. Mason said, "For the entire month, I'm not eating any meat," he has told listeners to his Sunday morning radio show, "Doctor in the House," on WVON-AM. "If it walks, runs, hops, flies, swims, crawls or slithers, I won't eat it. If it has eyes, I won't eat it. If it had a momma and a daddy, I won't eat it. . . . I'm going to focus on eating a healthy and delicious variety of fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. . . . And I want you to do the same."
