1. Healthier and More Compassionate School Lunches

A new nationwide survey by the School Nutrition Association says almost 2 out of 3 U.S. schools now offer vegetarian fare for lunch on a regular basis. That's a 40 percent increase since 2003, the first year veggie meals were tallied by the nonprofit group. However, in trying to keep lunches healthier, schools in the state of Georgia have raised their school lunch prices this year to keep up with the cost of preparation. It is great news when students are offered plant-based option for lunch on a daily basis. This encourages them to make thoughtful decision about their diet and the consequence on all of God's Creation.

3. Building Strong Bones

In order to build healthy bones nutritionists advise eating more fruits and vegetables, and less dairy and meat. The primary virtue of a low-acid diet may be its emphasis on fruits, vegetables and whole grains, says Joan Salge-Blake, a nutrition professor at Boston University and spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Assn. "A plant-based diet is not only good for bones, it's good for a lot of other things too," including lowering the risk of hypertension, stroke and heart disease, she says. A plant-based diet is God’s ideal diet for us as the book of Genesis tells us, as well as scientific data. By adopting a vegetarian diet we show we care about our bodies, animals and the environment.

5. Soy May Lower Cholesterol in Diabetic Patients

A study in next month's Journal of Nutrition found that consumption of soy protein may help people with type 2 diabetes lower their cholesterol levels. Study participants who consumed soy protein reduced LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels and the ratio of LDL cholesterol to HDL cholesterol significantly more than those who consumed milk protein. John Robbins, author of “Healthy at 100”, talks about the negative effects of junk food in our bodies, and the role of the health system nowadays. He believes that there’s very little done in the area of natural healing and prevention.
