1. Diet’s Link to the Environment

This excellent article highlights the importance of mindful eating in order to restore the health of the environment. It recounts the last 20 years since the first Earth Day celebration in 1990, pointing out that although many good changes have occurred since then, the single most important one is still embraced by a small minority: switching to a plant-base diet. To read the full article please search online for Eating for the Environment

That’s right. One of the most important changes we can make in order to be good stewards of God’s creation is to adopt a plant-based diet, which helps keep us healthy, alleviate animal suffering and restore the environment.

2. Famous Quote

"If there would come a voice from God saying, 'I'm against vegetarianism!' I would say, 'Well, I am for it!' This is how strongly I feel in this regard."

~ Isaac Bashevis Singer, Yiddish Laureate of literature, 1978 Nobel Prize recipient, (1904-1991)

3. What Industrial Fishing is Causing to Fish Populations

A new study published in the Nature Communications journal by Callum Roberts and Ruth Thurstan, explains the devastation that industrial fishing has on fish stocks. After analyzing the data, they found that industrialization of fishing had led to relentless exploitation of stocks to the point that British fish stocks have dropped by 94 percent in the past 118 years. Thurman's message to the public is that she hopes "...this allows people to realize just how much the seas have been altered and how much has been lost." To read the full article please search online for UK study shows 94 percent fish stock fall since 1889

We might be getting really close to the point of no return as far as the state of the oceans is concerned. Most of us don't think beyond the taste and cost of food once it reaches our tables; however, it is our duty as stewards of God's Creation to find out and learn how our food is produced and at what ethical, environmental and health costs. Only then we can be informed to make informed decisions about our choice of diet.

4. Bible Verse
(RSV) John 3:17

"For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

So many people believe that God sent Jesus to condemn them, but the truth is very different. God sent Jesus so everyone has the opportunity and choice to truly feel God's love for all Creation and to, therefore, reflecting that love by making choices according to Jesus' teachings of compassion, mercy and love, which are aligned to God's will.

5. Moby’s New Project

Vegan Musician Moby has recently co-edited (with animal activist Miyun Park) an anthology about food politics titled Gristle: From Factory Farms to Food Safety. This book explores the consequences that eating meat and dairy products have on our health, the environment, and animals. To read this and also the interview with Moby on VegNews please search online for Moby Talks Gristle

6. This Week’s Video: Meat’s Not Green

This short but informative video by PETA tells us why a meat-based diet is catastrophic for the environment. From global warming to pollution, the devastation that animal agriculture causes to our planet should be known by everyone so better diet choices can be made. Please search online for Meat's Not Green.
