1. Surgery or Plant-Based Diet?

In an article published on this week's issue of the American Journal of Cardiology, renowned Cleveland Clinic researcher Caldwell Esselstyn, M.D., emphasizes the need to change standard approaches to heart disease. He explains why common methods of treating heart disease, such as stent and bypass surgeries, may have their place among a minority of patients, but for the vast majority, they are not as effective as low-fat, plant-based diets. It’s good news that renowned and respected physicians are raising awareness on the benefits of a plant-based diet that in many cases such as the one above, can mean avoiding major surgeries. A plant-based diet is a great way to honor our bodies, God’s creations!

2.  Famous Quote

"If he be really and seriously seeking to live a good life, the first thing from which he will abstain will always be the use of animal food, because ...its use is simply immoral, as it involves the performance of an act which is contrary to the moral feeling -- killing."

~ Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910)

3. Media Coverage Affects Consumer Choices

What happens when the media covers issues of animal welfare in food production? Economists looked at media attention given to livestock issues and developed an index for animal welfare on beef, pork, and poultry. It turns out that when media attention is given to animal welfare issues, regardless of the production practices involved, consumer demand decreases for all meats. In fact, economists say that over the past decade, pork and poultry demand would be higher, were it not for media attention to livestock production issues. Thanks to the media, the inherent cruelty of factory farming is being exposed. The more information the public has, the more likely people are to make compassionate choices, especially when we assume our role of stewards of God's Creation.

4. Bible

(RSV) Psalms 62:8

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

In times of trouble, suffering and violence it is sometimes hard to trust God all the time; however, Christ’s message of compassion, justice and peace leads us into a fulfilling life in spite of the circumstances.

5. Veganism for Men

An article published in The Men's Journal highlights the most important aspects and benefits of transitioning to a plant-based diet. From a week to week guide to becoming vegan to example of healthy and delicious recipes, this article is a great aid for men who want to become healthier. To read the full article please search online for The Men's Journal Guide to Going Vegan

The health benefits of a plant-based diet are undeniable. While women tend to be more prone to transitioning to a plant-base diet, men are starting to realize its enormous benefits. The above article certainly does a great job at it!

6. This Week’s Video: Facts About Cow’s Milk

Short video on the evidence that milk could weaken bones, increase our weight, erupt skin problems like acne, produce breathing problems like asthma, cause ear infections in children, stomach problems for the lactose intolerant, heart disease risk, directly linked to cancer and cause hormonal problems.
