1. Help the Planet, Switch to a Plant-Based Diet

Scientists from the University of East Anglia recommend reducing meat and dairy intake in order to help curb global warming gases. They arrived to this conclusion after analyzing existing data on the nutritional and environmental effects of different kinds of foods. Scientists also recommended eating more local and seasonal products to cut down on transportation. Animal agriculture contributes greatly to global warming, more than all forms of transportation combined. As stewards of God's Creations we are called to take care of the Earth. One very important aspect is our diet that should ideally accord with our values and beliefs. A plant-based diet is a compassionate and responsible choice that benefits all Creation.

2. Famous Quote

The world, we are told, was made especially for man – a presumption not supported by all the facts.… Why should man value himself as more than a small part of the one great unit of creation?

~ John Muir, naturalist and explorer (1838–1914)

3. Animal Agriculture’s Toll on Earth

Gareth Hughes, New Zealand's member of Parliament for the Green Party, explains his main reason for adopting a plant-base diet: to restore the health of the environment. Hughes is aware of the huge environmental toll that the animal agriculture industry is taking on the Earth. From depleting fishing stocks, wasting grains and contributing to world hunger, to global warming, too many are the reasons to stop eating animal products. Hughes believes that one's choice of diet is an ethical and political choice as well. To read the full article please search online for Food is politics: the implications of what we eat

4. Bible Verse

(RSV) 1 Timothy 2:1-2

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way.

God wants us to willingly pray for a peaceful world and especially for those who lead us. All of us are called to actively live in peace and respect all Creation.

5. How to Save the World

Adopting a plant-based diet is one of the most effective ways to actively help in the healing of our planet. Animal agriculture's toll on animals, the environment and our health is devastating. Many studies suggest than unless humanity greatly decreases their consumption of animal products, the world by 2050 is going to encounter more famine, pollution and disappearance of species of fauna and flora than ever before since humans have inhabited Earth. There are so many things we have no control of; however, we have control over our choice of diet. This alone, if done mindfully, can bring healing in God's Creation.

6. This Week’s Video – Protecting the Earth by Adopting a Plant-Based Diet

This video raises awareness on the many negative consequences that animal agriculture brings onto Earth. It specifically addresses global warming and the importance of adopting a plant-based diet in order to restore the health of our planet. Please visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Q61Cg8VLw.
