1. DA Allows Unsafe Meat to Be Sold

This a great article by Dr. Greger explaining why the USDA allows the selling of unsafe meat and blames the consumer if he/she gets sick.  Dr. Greger says that American meat is contaminated with fecal matter and food pathogens to the extent that is a danger to public health. Patricia Griffin, director of Epidemiological Research at the Centers for Disease Control, puts it well: “Is it reasonable,” she asked, ‘“that if a consumer under cooks a hamburger…their three-year-old dies?”

The extent of corruption in our food system is appalling. Unfortunately, the USDA cannot be trusted to watch over the safety of food to any extent. It’s up to the consumer to make educated decisions about what to eat and what to feed one’s family. I believe we walk on much safer grounds when we avoid eating animal products and focus mainly on whole-unprocessed plant-based foods.

2. This Week’s Famous Quote

In a gentle way you can shake the world.

~ Mahatma Gandhi

3. More Deception by the Dairy Industry? You Bet!

A new site, www.DairyGood.org, tells consumers that the dairy industry promotes health in people, in communities and in the planet. Even worse, it deceives the public into reinforcing the idea that dairy industry plays an important role in creating supposedly a safe, affordable and abundant food supply. Sadly, this new website also includes personal accounts of dairy producers who have endured the worst drought in decades in order to touch people’s hearts.

The dairy industry lacks ethics, compassion and integrity. Of course it is going to use any antic imaginable to keep consumers buying their products even though scientific evidence indicates that milk is by no means as healthy food; in fact, dairy should be avoided completely when possible for it contributes to osteoporosis, obesity, diabetes and cancer among other illnesses.

4. This Week’s Bible Verse

(RSV) 1 Corinthians 6:19

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own;…

Taking care of our bodies is one essential aspect of being good stewards of God’s Creation. If we neglect our health, we are not showing respect for our Creator.

5. Factory Farms Responsible for Bugs

In spite of the overwhelming evidence that the overuse of antibiotics in factory farmed animals has been a major player in increasing rate of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, the sad reality is that this overuse of antibiotics is essential for industrial animal agriculture to exist. Clearly, public health is not their concern, nor the devastation of the environment. After all, animal agriculture contributes more to global warming that all transportation combined.

It’s really surprising how the meat, egg and dairy industries have been able to rely on antibiotics without much control at all and putting public health at risk. It’s obvious that it’s the consumer the one who can ultimately put an end to this practice. Without a demand for animal products factory farms would disappear. This would be great news for all of God’s Creation!

6. This Week’s Video: Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death

Focusing on studies published just over the last year in peer-reviewed scientific medical journals, Dr. Greger offers practical advice on how best to feed ourselves and our families to prevent, treat, and even reverse many of the top 15 killers.
