1. Pork Producers are Fuming
This is a great editorial in the Pork Magazine where it’s
obvious that pork producers are paying attention to animal advocates
and concerned consumers. After so many companies (McDonald’s, Burger
King, Wendy’s, Safeway, Winn Dixie, Quiznos, Red Robin, Subway, Bon
Appetit Management Company, Compass Group and Tim Hortons) have issued
deadlines for suppliers to phase-out gestation crates and move to
group housing, “pork producers are fuming” and weighing their options.
Through Their Eyes:
Pork producers are fuming because
their rotten, unethical, merciless business is being exposed. The more
exposure factory farming gets, the easier consumers can make the
connection between their choices and their meals. Most people do not
want animals harmed, and therefore, by learning about the suffering
farmed animals undergo unnecessarily they might be led to choose a
2. This Week’s Famous Quote
Let's just call things what they are. When a man's love of finery
clouds his moral judgment, that is vanity. When he lets a demanding
palate make his moral choices, that is gluttony. When he ascribes the
divine will to his own whims, that is pride. And when he gets angry at
being reminded of animal suffering that his own daily choices might
help avoid, that is moral cowardice.

Demonstration in Paris to Close Slaughterhouses
month, a large demonstration took place in Paris, France calling for
the closure of slaughterhouses. This demonstration took place at
symbolic location of the old slaughterhouses of Vaugirard in the 15th
Arrondissment, where part of Georges Franju’s movie (Animal’s Blood)
was shot in 1949. Franju’s words after witnessing the slaughter of
animals for food were, “The first time I went there, I came back home,
cried for two days, hid away all the knives, I just wanted to die.”

Millions of people around the world realize that killing
animals for food is not only unnecessary but horrifying. They are
taking a stand for all of God’s animals that are brutalized and killed
for the sake of profit and taste, and they want to see this come to an
end. The more people stand up for compassion, peace and love, the
kinder and more harmonious the world will be.
4. This Week’s
(RSV) Genesis 6:6
And the Lord was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it
grieved him to his heart.
Humankind is capable of the worst atrocities, but also of the
most magnificent acts of kindness. By following a path of compassion,
mercy and love we are honoring our loving and benevolent Creator, from
where all life arises.
5. What Really Is Behind Foe Gras
With the upcoming ban of foie gras (French term
for fatty liver) production in CA and its potential repercussions
around the country, producers are trying their best to appeal to
consumers. One producer in NY, Hudson Valley Foie Gras, opened its
doors to a CNN reporter in order to let consumers see what really is
behind foie gras production. From the raising of baby ducks to their
force-feeding and slaughter, readers can get informed and ultimately
decide the fate of foie gras. Please visit?
Clarified - Is foie gras fair game or foul play?:
spite of producers’ attempts to make foie gras production look
harmless and innocent, it still remains as the totally unnecessary
victimization of ducks and geese. Force-feeding any creature goes
against their God-given nature and it causes stress, pain and fear.
After all, how many people have ever seen a duck or a geese walking
happily toward being force-fed?
As long as we keep
rationalizing the exploitation of God’s animals we cannot even pretend
we are being good stewards of God’s Creation for this role implies
caring and respecting all creatures.
