Alice Walters, in her article titled “Slow Food Nation” rightly says that “every decision we make about food has personal and global repercussions,” since the evidence for it abound. Walters brings up the issue that Americans seem to agree that the typical American diet makes us sick; but that however, most people “still haven't acknowledged the full consequences--environmental, political, cultural, social and ethical--of our national diet.” She emphasized on the irony that agricultural policies have made good, wholesome food, apparently more expensive than unhealthy fast food.

Although Walter makes a great case for eating more organic, wholesome foods, she fails to address in this article the issue of animal suffering in modern agriculture. If a beef hamburger is so cheap and unhealthy in this country, it has a lot to do with the way we raise animals as simple commodities with no regard to their God-given rights.
