Tuna fish quota halved in Japan

Overfishing and the threat of extinction of many species of fish have pushed Japan to decrease its tuna fish quota to half for the next five years. Japan had already exceeded it’s quota in 2005 by 1,500 tons and according to a Fisheries Agency official Japan might have exceeded its quota thereafter as well. An alarming number of the world’s commercial fish stocks, more than 70%, are either over-exploited, depleted, slowly recovering or close to the maximum sustainable level of exploitation.

The little respect for God’s creation can be seen in the depletion of aquatic species around the world. Unless people worldwide transition to a plant-based diet, the exploitation of animals will continue to bring negative consequences to our health, animals and the environment.
