Iceland resumes commercial whale hunts

On October 17th, Iceland decided to resume the commercial hunting of whales despite the international moratorium.

Thirty minke whales and nine fin whales comprise the quota allowed until the end of 2007. Greenpeace has collected 87,000 signatures from foreigners and says that this decision will probably have an impact on Iceland’s tourism.

It’s very saddening every time there’s a turn backwards in relation to our treatment to animals, God’s creatures. While an international moratorium on whaling meant good news for God’s creation, Iceland new decision means tremendous pain and suffering for whales at the hands of humans. A plant-based diet is a compassionate choice for those who oppose suffering and want to participate in the reconciliation of God’s creation.
