Animal compassionate labels?
Animal rights advocates and compassionate consumers are raising
awareness about the brutality and cruelty farmed animals are subjected
to. Grocery stores and restaurants are carrying more food products with
animal-welfare labels, which seem to be on the road to popularity even
though their prices can be twice as much.
Whole Foods Market has been working on its “Animal Compassionate”
standards for three years and will soon make known its new logo
indicating how the animals were treated up until slaughter. However,
critics say that consumers are already confused with all the terms out
there, such as “free range”, “organic” or “grass-fed” among others.
Another issue is that the different terms used in food labels can be
very misleading since the mega food industries are behind the trend.
