Serious animal welfare problems revealed at the Centers for Disease Control, CDC

The animal rights group PETA called for the resignation of director Julie Gerberding, last Monday, due to serious problems — including monkey deaths from dehydration — dating back to 2002.

The CDC's labs have been on probation since last year with the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care-International. According to Tom Skinner, CDC spokesman, "Nobody is more devoted to the proper and ethical treatment of animals in science than Dr. Gerberding."

Being God’s stewards of God’s creation entails taking care of God’s animals in a loving, respectful, just and compassionate way. The Centers for Disease Control serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and control, environmental health, and health promotion and education activities designed to improve the health of people of the United States. This agency should show the highest standards of animal welfare.

The CDC cannot claim ignorance or lack of resources for their poor animal welfare regulations. It is lack of compassion and profit that usually drive this kind of situations.
