Yum brands rejects PETA offer of free property

Yum! Brands, Inc., based in Louisville, Ky., is the world's largest restaurant company in terms of system restaurants with over 34,000 restaurants in over 100 countries.

Four of their restaurant brands are KFC, Long John Silver's, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. The real estate department of Yum! Brands made a $1 million offer this month for property in downtown Norfolk, VA. What Yum! didn’t know is that the property was owned by the PETA Foundation, which been engaged in a campaign against KFC for the last 4 years.

PETA, in its letter to Yum! said:

“PETA would be willing to give Yum this warehouse — free and clear — if KFC requires its chicken suppliers to adopt the recommendations made by members of its own animal Welfare Advisory Council on March 11, 2005. A copy of these recommendations is enclosed for your reference.”

Yum!’s response was, “We don’t do business with corporate terrorists and, therefore, we no longer have any interest in this property.”
