Paying Farmers to Protect the Environment
The United Nations' Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) said that paying for "environmental
services" could be an important and effective way to protect and
restore the environment. According to FAO’s Director-General Jacques
Diouf, "(Farming) has the potential to degrade the Earth's land,
water, atmosphere and biological resources -- or to enhance them --
depending on the decisions made by the more than 2 billion people
whose livelihoods depend directly on crops, livestock, fisheries or
forests."

Offering incentives to farmers to
take care of the environment can be a very effective way to help
take care of God's Creation, as long as humanity realizes that the
transition to a plant-based has much impact in protecting and
restoring it.
