Alaska Pollock Collapsing
A staple of the US fast food industry, the Alaska Pollock, has
shrunk its numbers to record low levels. Pollock is used in
McDonald's fish sandwiches, frozen fish sticks, fish and chips and
imitation crabmeat. It also helps feed fur seals, whales and the
endangered Steller sea lions. According to Taina Honkalehto, a
research fishery biologist with the US National Marine Fisheries
Service, pollock biomass in US waters was down to 940,000 tons from
1.8 million tons last year, more than a 50% decrease. "Just as the
financial institutions on Wall Street collapsed due to poor
oversight and mismanagement, the pollock fishery is on the
fast-track to collapse as well," Greenpeace said.

It is impossible for Creation to stand the irresponsible
exploitation of God's animals and the environment. Unless humans
make compassionate and responsible choices, the devastation on Earth
will be unstoppable. Adopting a plant-based diet is one crucial way
to be good stewards of God's Creation.
