Double Moral Standard
Michael Vick's case helped expose the cruelty involved in
dog-fighting and Americans showed outrage to such barbaric "sport".
However, the more than 10 billion animals that are annually killed in
the US for food do not receive any compassion from all those that still
support the meat and dairy industry.
As Gary Francione says, "Vick may have enjoyed watching dogs fight;
someone else may find that repulsive but see nothing wrong with eating
an animal who has had a life as full of pain and suffering as the lives
of the fighting dogs."

But what about that hot-dog?
Sadly, Christians in general are no exception as far as this double
moral standard goes, when we should be the ones showing compassion and
mercy to God’s animals. Maybe with the exposure of the victimization of
farmed animals, Christian leaders might decide to include animal issues
in their radar.
