Plant-Based Diet Reduces Breast Cancer Risk

A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that Postmenopausal women whose diets include plenty of lignans, natural compounds found in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and flax and sesame seeds, may have a lower risk of breast cancer. The benefit from lignans may be due to their ability to block estrogen’s activity in the body or to other anticancer effects. Once again the benefits of a plant-based diet are evident. Cancer, on of the most prevalent chronic diseases in developed countries, is linked to a meat and dairy-based diet; therefore, if more people transitioned to a plant-based diet cancer would become much less prevalent.
