Vegetarians Suffer Less From Depression

According to a new study in Nutrition Journal vegetarians have lower instances of depression. The study comprised 60 vegetarians and 78 meat-eaters and found that vegetarians scored significantly better on standardized mood tests that measured depression, anxiety, and stress and were compared to food frequency questionnaires. The vegetarians consumed less eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and arachidonic acid—all animal sources of essential fatty acids—but reported higher mean intakes of plant sources of omega-6 and omega-3.

Adopting a compassionate and healthy diet has to have a spiritual, emotional and physical impact. When we eat meat, we are eating the flesh of animals that suffer greatly as well as flesh laden with hormones and antibiotics; however, when we adopt a plant-based diet, we are giving our bodies healthful foods that heal our bodies and souls.
