Another Campus Adopts Meat-Free Mondays
Virginia Hanrahan, a sophomore at the University of California-Santa
Cruz, is part of a great movement started by the student animal-rights
group Banana Slugs for Animals that with help from People for the
Ethical Treatment of Animals pushed the university to offer only
vegetarian dishes in one of the five dining halls every Monday on a
rotating basis. Hanrahan says she adopted a vegetarian lifestyle for
health reasons in addition to concerns about animal cruelty and the
environmental impact of producing meat.
