Tom Philpott, food and ag blogger for Mother Jones, shed light on
some of the very concerning aspects of raising animals for food. He
believes that the "pink slime" that worry consumers is not nearly the
grossest thing; in fact, he mentions and explains 4 grosser things
that consumers need to be aware of: rodents on egg conveyor belts,
chickens on sex hormones, flies and cockroaches carrying
antibiotic-resistant pathogens from factory farms to surrounding towns
and slaughterhouse workers sometimes get weird brain disorders along
with their very low wages.

Animal-based agriculture cuts corners and engages in
short-sighted practices that are ultimately dangerous and unhealthy
for all creatures and the environment. It has become increasingly
clear that public health is at the bottom of their priorities, and
that power and profit are at the very top. Animal agriculture is a
threat to all Creation.
