A steady increase of urinary tract infections in women within the
past 3 years has raised concerns about its cause. The culprit,
E.coli, has been found; however, the source of this strain was
unknown until recently. Research studies in the United States,
Canada, and Europe have found close genetic matches between
resistant E. coli collected from human patients and resistant
strains found on chicken or turkey sold in supermarkets or collected
from birds being slaughtered. According to researchers, chicken,
which is the low-cost, low-fat protein that Americans eat more than
any other meat is the link that allows resistant bacteria to move to
humans.

How is it possible to go on exploiting animals so
mercilessly and expect no consequences? Surprisingly, this is what
humanity has been doing and continues to do in spite of the
warnings. So, if we want to create a healthy, peaceful and joyous
world, we need to spread with warm hands the same onto other beings.
Allowing God’s animals to live healthy, peaceful and joyous lives is
probably the easiest but most important task we have as stewards of
God’s creation. After all, what we sow, we also reap.
