Sadly, not many people think about what “chicken wings” really
are: the wings (bone and flesh) of sentient beings, who suffer
unimaginable pain and ultimately die so people may enjoy the very
transient taste of eating them. It’s important to note that chickens
don’t give their wings to humans; instead, they are stolen from them
in brutal ways.
Our loving Creator gave chickens their wings so
they may use them for their own purpose, such as to fly short
distances, help propel them into the air so they can reach a perch,
or to snag a tasty looking seed or fruit off a branch; a mother hen
will use her wings to cover and protect her chicks, a chicken
claiming his/her space will puff up and flap in place, and a rooster
who is herding hens will drop one wing toward them and strut. When
we see how magnificent these creatures are, we are more inclined to
respect their bodies and allow them to live and enjoy their lives.
