Today, Christmas Eve and tomorrow, Christmas, many of us will get
together to celebrate the birth of Christ with friends and
relatives, who might not share our choice of a compassionate
plant-based diet. These type of celebrations are sometimes hard on
us because we witness how indifferent people tend to be toward the
pain and death of God’s animals, who suffer unnecessarily
unimaginable pain and terror in factory farms and slaughterhouses.
What’s sometimes worse, is that the vast majority of people eat
animals simply for their taste and convenience, hardly good excuses.
The celebration of the birth of Christ, the “Prince of Peace”,
should involve foods that align with His teachings of mercy, peace
and love. There is no peace or love or mercy in the raising of
animals for food, because the meat, dairy and egg industries look at
God’s animals as commodities for profit and power.
We can spread peace, compassion and love by being witnesses of
the faith of Christ, and showing people that we can live very
healthy, joyous and fulfilling lives by embracing a lifestyle that
creates as little suffering as possible.
