1. Activist Feedback

2. Some responses from CVA members to “I could never be a vegetarian. I love meat.”

1. Activist Feedback
John, who tabled at the 9/07 Toronto Vegetarian Food Fair, writes: Response was excellent. The public was interested, and I was able to answer the vast majority of their questions to their satisfaction and, usually, contentment. Some of the debates I had to get into took a while but they generally went very well; I felt that God was helping me answer. Thank God, no one seemed displeased. The vegetarian community seemed impressed. In fact one of the board of directors of the Toronto Vegetarian Association suggested my starting a CVA chapter here.

Nathan and Priya from Mercy For Animals leafleted at the Revolve Tour concert outside Nationwide arena [in Columbus, OH] on 9/14. It was a great event! We distributed 900 Christian Vegetarian Association leaflets. The audience was nearly all female (girls between 8 – 17 years old with their mothers). Seventy percent of the people took the brochure. We arrived right at 5:30 p.m. Traffic picked up around 6:30 p.m. We heard from a number of people who were already vegetarian, and many people came back to ask for additional copies to give to their friends. This was a terribly worthwhile event.

I hope all is going well with you!

Sincerely,
Freeman Wicklund

2. Some responses from CVA members to “I could never be a vegetarian. I love meat.”

I have 4 replies for the statement:
"I could never be a vegetarian. I love meat."

1. The more intellectual response:
"As humans, we love many things that are not healthy or good for us. Meat is probably one of them."

2. The more humorous one:
"I love meat, too. But.....on the animal."

3. The most thought provoking:
"Many food items create a craving in our minds for "more and more." Meat may be one of them."

4. The most flippant: (which I only use when someone is clearly wanting to argue the point, just for the sake of arguing):
"I love my children, too. But I'm not going to eat them."

Kyleen

I would respond to the statement by naming all the tasty meat substitutes that are widely available today. I would also say that the sacrifice is worth it by giving a few facts on animal cruelty and health.

-Renee

I tell people, just give up one animal. In a positive voice, I say that a person does not have to give up all meat cold-turkey - no pun intended. You can make a difference by not eating meat from one animal. Start with your least favorite meat, say pork, and don't eat meat from pigs, but you still have beef and chicken.

Melissa

In answer to people who say "I could never be vegetarian I love meat" you could say 1 of 2 things:
There are lots of meat alternatives which taste much like meat without the cruelty. Why don't you try some quorn/tofu etc.

If an abattoir had glass walls, meat would never taste the same again.

Kathryn
