Actually Jesus asking Peter if he loves Him more than those men makes perfect sense.... I'll give you a clue and you can see why he asks Peter for yourself. People always miss this part. Jesus teaches a lesson earlier on with the woman that annointed his head and washed His feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. He asks a question, "Who loves me more.. one forgiven of a greater sin or one forgiven of a lesser sin?" He's letting Peter know the sin that Peter committed in denying Christ as well as forgiving him for it at the same time. Thus Peter as now forgiven would have the gratitude to love Jesus more.
