Putting Glass Walls on New York's Slaughterhouses So We Can
See Behind Closed Doors
Owasco Meat Co., Inc.
Address: 61 Oak Hill Rd, Moravia, NY 13118
Establishment No.: m4532
USDA Inspection Report: 26 Jul 2011
Citation: At approximately 7:15 AM, after conducting a scheduled 01B01, myself and CSI exited the establishment's front door, upon exiting we noticed numerous "centipede type" insects on the faÎade of the building. Upon further inspection when we re-entered the plant we noticed several of these centipede type insects had entered the kill floor area on the floor close to the entrance. Since the plant had just started the slaughter process no product was affected. I immediately notified plant owner Larry Brannon & employee of this situation. As they took immediate action by spraying them away with a hose, no regulatory control action was taken. Larry stated he would have periodically spray them away for now until he finds a more permanent solution to the problem.
