USDA Inspection Report: 12 Oct 2010

Code: 04C02
Violation: 313.2

Citation: On October 12, 2010 at approximately 1300 hours, while performing ante mortem inspection duties Dr. [redacted] and myself witnessed a cattle truck driver and two plant employees attempting to move a non ambulatory cow in lateral recumbency with a rope tied around its back legs. When this incident occurred the cow was laying on the cattle truck. The close quarters on the truck made it very hard for the cow to stand and become ambulatory on its own. I informed head herdsman Mr. [redacted] of this non compliance.

313.2(a) Driving of livestock from the unloading ramps to the holding pens and from the holding pens to the stunning area shall be done with a minimum of excitement and discomfort to the animals. Livestock shall not be forced to move faster than a normal walking speed.
