Putting Glass Walls on Pennsylvania Slaughterhouses So We Can See Behind Closed Doors from FAUN Friends Of Animals United
Groff Meats

Address: 33 North Market St, Elizabethtown, PA 17022
Establishment No.: m09442

USDA Inspection Report: 27 May 2011

Code: 01C02
Violation: 416.3(c), 416.4(d)

Citation: At approximately 0800 while doing a walk through of the plant, I noticed that several employees were using cracked blue totes for edible product. I informed these employees that they cannot use cracked totes because they cannot be properly cleaned and sanitized. The totes are a direct food contact surface. Also the barrels that are used for edible product were being used for trash. These barrels are clearly identified as edible barrels. I have informed management about both of these noncompliances previously and an NR was written concerning both of these issues. [newline]No regulatory control was taken because the employees reconditioned the product while in the presence of USDA personnel.

Regulation:

416.3(c) Receptacles used for storing inedible material must be of such material and construction that their use will not result in the adulteration of any edible product or in the creation of insanitary conditions. Such receptacles must not be used for storing any edible product and must bear conspicuous and distinctive marking to identify permitted uses.

416.4(d) Product must be protected from adulteration during processing, handling, storage, loading, and unloading at and during transportation from official establishments.
