Citation: At approximately 0930 hours FI [redacted] witnessed the Plant Manager, [redacted] stun a pig and start to hoist the pig off the ground. When the pig was approximately 4-5 feet off the ground it started to vocalize. Mr. [redacted] immediately stunned the pig a second and third time. All three times FI [redacted] noticed that the placement of the stuning attempt was correct. The time between the intial stun and the third stun was approximately 25 seconds.[newline][newline]The multiple stun attempts is a violation of 9CFR313.30(b)(3). Mr. [redacted] Plant Manager was verbally notified of this noncompliance.

Regulation:

313.30(b)(3) Electric current. Each animal shall be given a sufficient application of electric current to ensure surgical anesthesia throughout the bleeding operation. Suitable timing, voltage and current control devices shall be used to ensure that each animal receives the necessary electrical charge to produce immediate unconsciousness. The current shall be applied so as to avoid the production of hemorrhages or other tissue changes which could interfere with inspection procedures.
