USDA Inspection Report: 9 Jun 2011

Code: 06D01
Violation: 310.18

Citation: Today, Thursday, June 9, 2011 while performing an unscheduled 06D01 procedure, I observed boxes of chicken on a skid pushed up against and touching two beef carcass halves. This is potentially causing an insanitary condition. I took a regulatory control action and both carcass halves were tagged with tag # B0331932 & B9331933 and Mr. was notified of this non-compliance. Plant employees immediately removed the chicken and trimmed the carcasses in the presence of the IIC. 9CFR 310.18 states "Contamination of carcasses, organs, or other parts. (a) Carcasses, organs, and other parts shall be handled in a sanitary manner to prevent contamination with fecal material, urine, bile, hair, dirt, or foreign matter; however, if contamination occurs, it shall be promptly removed in a manner satisfactory to the inspector."

Regulation:

310.18(a) Carcasses, organs, and other parts shall be handled in a sanitary manner to prevent contamination with fecal material, urine, bile, hair, dirt, or foreign matter; however, if contamination occurs, it shall be promptly removed in a manner satisfactory to the inspector.
